EBay eyes on cross-border communication strategy

Recently eBay acquired translation technology for improving its communication strategy across nations.However, the voice technology of AppTek will operate as a single entity under the same brand. EBay has not yet disclosed some terms of this deal.

AppTek was founded in the year 1990 as a company specialising in machine translation and voice recognition. AppTek has also been focussing on hybrid machine translation software.

EBay acquired its technology from AppTek and will absorb the IP and talent from AppTek. According to some sources, about eight employees from AppTek will join EBay including a co-founder of AppTek. EBay is going to continue AppTek’s current consumers consisting mainly government agencies.

With the new acquisition, eBay will transform its machine translation in a better way. Presently eBay is eying cross-border consumers the percentage of which is growing manifold. Most of the consumers and merchants are interested in making transactions in their own language and this tool will help eBay to appeal them. The merger of translation technology will help merchants and buyers to give them better experience in their own language. In addition to this, AppTek has its office in Germany which will enhance eBay’s European dominance and increase cross-border sales. Global expansion has always been a priority for the company and eBay has been taking several steps to increase its sales in India, China, Russia and Brazil. The acquisition news follows the recent unveiling of PassPort to increase its global sales. The bottom-line is –the deal will increase its customer base and expand its markets globally.
